Sprue Aegis

Sprue Aegis is the UK-based designer and marketer of the FireAngel and AngelEye ranges of innovative fire and related safety products. Its plug-in smoke alarms are mains-powered, tested to both British and the USA Underwriter Laboratories (UL) standards and preclude the need for replacement batteries. The FireAngel plug-in smoke alarm fits between the light socket and the light bulb, recharging automatically when the light is switched on, and can be tested and reset using a conventional light switch. The company\"s business model is based on contracting-out all non-core activities which allows Sprue Aegis to concentrate on product development and marketing. The manufacturing and packaging of all FireAngel and AngelEye smoke alarms has been outsourced to a manufacturer in China. Since its commercial launch in 2001, FireAngel has established a strong UK retail presence, with an estimated 15% market share by value and 8% by volume. Over 5,000 outlets nationwide now stock FireAngel products, including major retailers, high street stores and a range of electrical wholesalers, e-tailers and smaller independents. Sprue Aegis also has a portfolio of complementary safety products, including carbon monoxide detectors, which are now sale via leading UK retailers. The company has developed public sector housing as an additional revenue stream.
